![]() 1100 Thursday, 05 May, 2022, 19:30 The European Union will provide an additional 200 million euros in humanitarian aid to Ukraine, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said. Speaking on Thursday from a donors’ conference in Poland, Ms. von der Leyen said the EU was pledging the extra aid, equivalent to roughly $210 million, for the internally displaced people in Ukraine. More than seven million people have been internally displaced by the fighting, many of them children, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. The number of refugees from Ukraine has topped 5.7 million, UNHCR said on Thursday, 10 weeks since the start of the war. Ms. von der Leyen said the EU had mobilized 4 billion euros in financial support since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February. Her announcement comes a month after she traveled to Kyiv to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
