Washington called on Ankara to stop drilling on the Cyprus shelf

The US calls on Turkey to stop drilling at a gas field in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Cyprus. This was stated in an interview with Phileleftheros newspaper by the US Ambassador to Nicosia, Judith Garber.
"The United States is aware of reports that the Turkish drilling vessel Yavuz arrived on April 20 in the area that Cyprus has declared its exclusive economic zone. We urge the Turkish authorities to stop these operations and continue to urge all parties to avoid steps that increase tension in the region," she said.
According to Gerber, "the United States is deeply concerned about recent reports of Turkey's plans to drill in the waters off the coast of Cyprus." "This provocative step increases tension in the region," the head of the US diplomatic mission said.
