A man was shot at a busy Manhattan subway station just before rush hour, police said.
The NYPD said that a man was shot in the leg on a northbound N train as it approached Union Square station.
Police said the victim was approached by an armed individual who demanded he give up his cell phone. The victim was then shot in the leg before the train pulled into the station.
A witness aboard the train ran after the suspect as he fled the train and station. Police were still canvassing the area for the gunman and any relevant surveillance video several hours after the incident.
