Biden faces uprising over Israel from his own staff
![]() 1556 Thursday, 04 January, 2024, 12:30 President Biden's own cabinet-members are turning on him in light of his handling of the Israel-Hamas war and his refusal to call for a ceasefire to end the conflict in the Middle East. A senior education official under Biden resigned on Wednesday because of the administration's 'failure' to protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza from Israeli forces in the ongoing deadly conflict between Israel and Hamas that broke out after Hamas' atrocities on October 7. Tariq Habash, a policy advisor in the department's Office of Planning, announced his resignation in a letter to Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, NBC reported. Habash, who is a Palestinian American, is a political appointee and student loan and college affordability specialist for the education department. 'I cannot stay silent as this administration turns a blind eye to the atrocities committed against innocent Palestinian lives, in what leading human rights experts have called a genocidal campaign by the Israeli government,' Habash wrote in his resignation letter. |
