RIA Novosti reports this. Michel’s mandate expires at the end of November 2024, but he decided to leave his post in the summer. According to him, the position of Chairman of the European Council cannot be combined with the work of a member of the European Parliament, so he will resign before July 16, the date of the oath of office of the deputies of the new convocation of the European Parliament. Earlier, the President of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, considered 2024 a key year for democracy. The head of the EC recalled that this year there will be elections to the European Parliament and presidential elections in the United States. |
