Donald Trump officially secured the position of US president on December 17, reaching the necessary 270 electoral votes, reports CNN.
According to CNN, on Tuesday, electors from Texas awarded Trump 40 votes during a meeting in Austin. This enabled the final confirmation of the Republican's victory.
Although Donald Trump won the election on November 5, his victory was officially confirmed only on December 17. This occurred when the Electoral College convened nationwide as part of the constitutional process to formally elect the president.
Notably, a candidate must secure 270 out of 538 electoral votes to win the US presidential election. In the November election, Trump received 312 votes, while Vice President Kamala Harris secured 226. So far, each elector voted for the candidate they were selected to represent.
Now, the votes from each state will be sent to Congress. Lawmakers will meet in a joint session on January 6 to officially count the electoral votes and formally declare Trump and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance as the next president and vice president․
