Kallas: We are in NATO, because we are afraid of Russia

EU countries are in the NATO bloc because they are afraid of Russia, European diplomacy chief Kaia Kallas told AFP.

Why are we in NATO? Because we are afraid of Russia. And the only thing that really helps – the only security guarantee that works – is NATO's umbrella, she says.
Donald Trump said last week that Ukraine "can forget" about joining NATO. He also repeated the Russian stance that the NATO issue "is probably the reason it all started".

"The accusations are completely and utterly false", says Kallas and continues:
It's a Russian narrative that we shouldn't fall for.

Moscow has repeatedly stressed that it does not pose a threat to any of the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance, but will not ignore actions that are potentially dangerous to its interests.
