Sargis Khandanyan: ''I extended an invitation to my counterpart in Azerbaijan to convene a joint meeting''

Armenia and Azerbaijan have reached an agreement on the draft "Agreement on Peace and Establishment of Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan," marking the conclusion of negotiations.
Recognizing our role as parliamentarians, directly elected by the people and entrusted with representing their interests, we acknowledge that the agreement will require ratification by the parliaments of both countries following its signing. In my capacity as Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the National Assembly of Armenia, I extended an invitation to my counterpart, Hon. Samad Seidov, Chair of the Committee on Foreign and Interparliamentary Relations of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, to convene a joint meeting between our committees.
This meeting would provide a platform to exchange perspectives on the draft peace agreement and deliberate on its ratification process. Furthermore, it would serve as an opportunity to discuss the broader parliamentary dimension of the peace process, fostering dialogue on the future of inter-legislative cooperation—both bilaterally and within multilateral parliamentary platforms.
Such an initiative would complement other confidence-building measures that our countries may undertake and contribute to strengthening regional stability. I look forward to a positive response from my counterpart in the Milli Majlis so we may coordinate the date, venue, and other arrangements for this meeting. As a venue for the inaugural meeting we can consider a neutral location along the Armenia-Azerbaijan border.
