The implementation of the “Crossroads of Peace” project will be possible in the event of the signing of a peace agreement between Yerevan and Baku, as well as the normalization of relations between Yerevan and Ankara. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at a conference dedicated to the historical southern Russian lands, referring to the possible unblocking of communication routes and infrastructure in the South Caucasus and other regions, including the prospects of the “Crossroads of Peace” initiative presented by Armenia.

“The Armenian side is developing an initiative called “Crossroads of Peace”, striving to include its territory and logistical capabilities in major general continental processes. We are in favor of the development of all infrastructure projects,” Lavrov noted, adding that for the practical implementation of this initiative, however, it is necessary for a peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan to be signed.

“We sincerely wish them success in this endeavor. It is obvious that the agreement was reached thanks to several trilateral summits between the Russian Federation, Armenia and Azerbaijan. We are ready to continue to support this in the future, if both sides are interested in it,” Sergey Lavrov emphasized.

In his speech, the Russian Foreign Minister also touched upon the process of normalizing relations between Armenia and Turkey, noting that overcoming conflicts and unblocking transport and economic ties blocked due to these conflicts will definitely help promote the competitiveness of the region.
