The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that a verbal note was handed to the Azerbaijani ambassador demanding the immediate release of the Russian journalists.
It was emphasized that Baku's attempts to accuse Russian law enforcement agencies of abusing their powers are considered interference in Russia's internal affairs.
The diplomatic agency also sent a note of protest to the Azerbaijani ambassador regarding Baku's unfriendly steps and deliberate measures to break off relations with Moscow.
Earlier, a criminal case was initiated in Azerbaijan in connection with the death of two Azerbaijanis detained in Yekaterinburg. Azerbaijan accuses Russian law enforcement agencies of torturing them.
