Residents evacuated as wildfires rage in Crete
![]() 1311 Thursday, 03 July, 2025, 12:54 In the east of Crete, a huge forest fire continues to spread, which began on the afternoon of July 2, 2025, in a remote and densely forested area near the municipality of Ierapetra. The fire is spreading rapidly due to strong winds, with gusts reaching 8 on the Beaufort scale. The flames are moving south and pose a threat to residential buildings, tourist complexes and important infrastructure, including petrol stations. A large-scale evacuation has begun in the municipality of Ferma and the surrounding areas. |
