"If the conditions regarding the Zangezur corridor are met, the border can be opened": Ambassador
![]() 1049 Thursday, 31 July, 2025, 12:46 The border between Turkey and Armenia may be opened if the conditions for the “Zangezur Corridor” are met. This was stated by Turkey’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Birol Akgun in an interview with APA. The ambassador noted that the processes of normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia, as well as between Turkey and Armenia, should be viewed comprehensively. “Both processes of normalization are proceeding in parallel. Special representatives for the normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia were appointed in 2022. It is known that the border between Turkey and Armenia has been closed since 1993 due to the occupation of Azerbaijani territories. Armenia is landlocked, and the Armenian people suffer the most from this. Armenia borders Azerbaijan and Turkey in the east and west, these borders are closed. Everyone will benefit from this peace, but Armenia will benefit the most. We want to accelerate the normalization process. "If a sustainable peace agreement is signed or initialed, and the conditions regarding the Zangezur corridor are met, the Turkish-Armenian border could be opened at an appropriate time, as a result of consultations between Ankara and Baku. This will depend on how the settlement process develops," the ambassador said. |
