2 National Guard members shot near White House, AP reports

A person is in police custody after a shooting in Northwest D.C. in which two National Guardsmen were reportedly wounded.
Very little information has been released at this time, but the DC Police posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, that officers are investigating a shooting at 17th Street and I Street. According to reporting from the Associated Press, citing a source, two National Guard members were shot, and their conditions are unknown. There is no official word on injuries at this time.
DC Police confirmed that one person was taken into custody just before 3 p.m.
Metro Transit Police took to X to ask riders to avoid the area near the Farragut West station as officers assist in the investigation. Police have not released any information about the suspect.
The National Guard released a statement shortly after the shooting, saying:
"We’re aware of the incident and we are working closely with the Metro PD and other law enforcement agencies. The health and safety of our service members is our top priority as we continue to support citizens and visitors of Washington D.C."
