Brazil protest turns terrifying as lightning injures 70+ people
![]() 4273 Monday, 26 January, 2026, 10:17 In the capital of Brazil, Brasília, during a severe thunderstorm, lightning struck near people waiting for the start of a protest in support of jailed former President Jair Bolsonaro, who is currently serving a 27-year sentence for orchestrating a coup attempt. At least 72 people were injured. Up to 30 demonstrators have been rushed to hospital.
