Trump gets McDonald's delivery to Oval Office to promote no tax on tips
![]() 993 Tuesday, 14 April, 2026, 11:39 US President Donald Trump turned a routine lunch delivery into a political message on Monday, receiving a DoorDash order of McDonald's at the Oval Office and using the moment to promote his "No Tax on Tips" policy. The delivery was made by Sharon Simmons, an Arkansas-based DoorDash driver who arrived wearing a "DoorDash Grandma" T-shirt and carrying two bags of the president's long-time fast food favourite. "I have a DoorDashorder for you, Mr. President," Simmons said as she handed over thebags. Trump, speaking to reporters gathered outside, joked whileshowing the order: "This doesn't look staged, does it?" He said he arranged the delivery after learning Simmons had received an additional $11,000 under the tax provision. "The reason for this is I heard you picked up an extra $11,000 because the tax bill was so big," Trump said, calling it part of what he described as a "great big beautiful tax cut bill." The "No Tax on Tips" measure, first pushed by Trump during the 2024 campaign, was later included in a broader tax and spending law passed by Republicans. The provision allows eligible workers in tip-based jobs— from bartenders to golf caddies — to deduct a portion of their tips from federal income tax between 2025 and 2028.
