Iran's state-run broadcaster has quoted the country's central command as saying that the Strait of Hormuz has been "completely closed."
Press TV reported the statement on Thursday, which was issued by the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters.
The statement says the Strait of Hormuz has been declared closed to all vessels, including oil tankers and commercial ships. It adds any attempted passage will be targeted.
The statement says the closure comes in response to what it calls "continued hostile actions by the United States," including its attacks on a southern Iranian province.
