France's "deserted" river: The Loire has turned into a vast sandbank

France's longest river, the Loire, has almost dried up as Western Europe faces one of the worst heat waves in history. Against the backdrop of anomalous heat recorded in Europe in June, drought conditions in France are worsening. The photos show that the Loire has completely dried up in the Montjean-sur-Loire region.
