Iran will reciprocate if US returns to Islamabad commitments, Pezeshkian says

Iran will immediately reciprocate if the United States returns to its commitments under the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, President Masoud Pezeshkian told the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit in Bishkek on Tuesday.
Pezeshkian said nearly three months of negotiations mediated by Pakistan and Qatar produced the agreement on June 18, 2026.
“However, the United States remained committed to the document bearing its president’s signature for less than two weeks before its excessive demands and violations of its commitments began, and they continue to this day,” he said.
Pezeshkian said Iran responded proportionately to Washington’s violations but remained prepared to resume compliance.
“If the United States returns to its commitments under the memorandum, the Islamic Republic of Iran will immediately reciprocate,” he said. “Unlike the United States, my country has an outstanding record of honoring its international commitments and agreements and has always acted in accordance with the principles of international law.”
