Merz warns of 'decisive weeks or months' ahead for Europe due to war in Ukraine

Germany believes that Europe's security should be at the center of political action. And Ukraine needs to receive even more assistance in its war against Russia, according to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's statement at the European Arctic Summit in Rovaniemi, Die Zeit reports.
Merz noted that the fate of Germany is closely linked to the fate of the continent. The issue of Europe's security is the most important topic for discussion.
Merz also said that Europe is facing decisive weeks and months regarding the "protection of the freedom and peace of our continent" from Russia.
"I will do everything I can to secure our support and convince people that this (assistance to Ukraine - ed.) is in our own interests," Merz said.
He added that Germany must remain steadfast until this "terrible war is over."
In his view, if Russia succeeds, this will have unpredictable and unprecedented consequences for everyone, including Germany.
