At Least 6 Crew Members Confirmed Dead After Military Plane Crashes in Amur Region

Six crew members on board a Russian military aircraft that crashed in the Far Eastern Amur region were killed, Russia’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday.

The Tu-95 strategic bomber went down in a remote area during a routine training exercise, the Interfax news agency cited a military spokesperson as saying. It was not carrying any weapons on board at the time of the crash.

One crew member survived the crash and was hospitalized, the Defense Ministry said. Air Force officials were dispatched to the crash site to conduct an investigation.

Unverified reports from Telegram news with ties to Russian law enforcement and security services claimed the bomber plane may have crashed as the result of an engine fire and explosion.

Officials have not commented on the possible cause of the crash.

The Tu-95 was reportedly stationed at the Ukrainka air base, one of Russia’s largest long-range Air Force bases. Reports said the plane crashed near the village of Krasnoyarovo, which is located 30 kilometers (18.5 miles) north of the Ukrainka base.
