One hundred bloggers and journalists detained in Belarus before May 9
1548 Tuesday, 12 May, 2020, 15:25 Human rights activists in Belarus claim that on the eve of and after Victory Day, authorities detained more than 100 opposition journalists and bloggers who took part in online broadcasts in which they talked about the situation in the country’s regions. On May 11, blogger Sergei Petrukhin was arrested for streaming from the April rally against the construction of a battery plant near Brest. Another blogger Sergei Tikhanovsky was detained on May 6 near Mogilev. A blogger criticizes power and life in Belarus. During the rallies demanding the release of Tikhanovsky, his colleagues, spectators and journalists covering the protests were detained.
