Tomasz Komenda with compensation, court decision. Adam Bodnar comments

Ombudsman, Adam Bodnar, commented on the court’s decision, which awarded Tomasz Komenda a total of nearly PLN 13 million in compensation and redress. – This is an absolutely record redress. The court highly valued the freedom of the citizen and I am very happy about it – said the Commissioner for Human Rights.
On Monday, the Opole district court awarded 12 million zlotys in damages and 811,000 533 zlotys in damages to Tomasz Komenda for 18 years of unjust imprisonment for a crime he did not commit. The verdict is not final. The Command demanded nearly PLN 19 million from the State Treasury for the stay in prison and the related harassment.– This is absolutely record redress and compensation. The headquarters demanded a million zlotys for each year of imprisonment, i.e. 18 million zlotys in compensation and over 800,000 zlotys in compensation for various losses. If the court has decided to provide such a high level of compensation, it means that it has set a certain standard – said Bodnar, when asked by journalists about the sentence.
