Trump says he is ready to work with Democrats

U.S. President Donald Trump called into POLITICO’s Elections Live broadcast on Tuesday night and declared that he is prepared to work with Democrats in the interest of the country.

Speaking with POLITICO journalist Dasha Burns, Trump discussed the midterm election results, which early returns indicated were delivering significant gains for Democrats — the so-called “blue wave.”

“We’re going to work with the Democrats to make sure things go well for our country. Very important,” the president said.

Trump noted that he had already spoken with some Democratic leaders.

“They’ve already called and they want to work with [us]. I’ve already spoken to certain leaders of the Democrat party… We’ll work with the Democrats and we’ll make things work out well for the country,” he continued.

The president emphasized that he does not want to spend the final two years of his term simply vetoing legislation.

“We have the right to veto everything, but I don’t want to be just sitting there for two years vetoing everything. They want to see things happen, too,” Trump said.
