Derek Chauvin sentenced to 22.5 years for murder of George Floyd

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 and a half years on Friday for the murder of George Floyd.

The sentencing closes a chapter in a case that sparked global outrage and a reckoning on racial disparities in America, and across the world.

Chauvin offered condolences to the Floyd family.

Attorneys on both sides made brief arguments before the sentencing Friday.
