PM Garibashvili signs Georgia’s application for EU membership on “historic day”

Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili has praised a “historic day” for Georgia with his signing of the country’s bid for European Union membership on Thursday, saying the move “continues the efforts of our ancestors, which was aimed at unification in a common European family.”

The government head told the nation applying for EU membership marked the next important stage on Georgia's European integration path.

Georgia is a European state; Our country, throughout its long history, has always belonged to the area of ​​European culture and civilization, and even today it makes a valuable contribution to its protection and development,” Garibashvili said.
In his address, the PM also highlighted the history of Georgia, calling it “the history of the struggle for freedom” and a “proof that these (European) values ​​are in the nature of Georgian people and, therefore, are inseparable”.
