![]() 3537 Thursday, 19 October, 2023, 20:12 An Iraqi Shiite militia claimed on Thursday responsibility for launching drone and rocket attacks on two U.S. military bases in eastern Syria. An armed group calling itself "The Islamic Resistance in Iraq" claimed in two online statements that its fighters launched three booby-trapped drones on Thursday morning at the al-Tanf military base near Syria's borders with Iraq and Jordan. Its fighters also fired rockets on another U.S. military base in the Conoco gas field in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour. According to the statements, the authenticity of which could not be independently verified, the attacks hit their targets. They did not provide further details. On Wednesday, an unidentified armed group calling itself Tashkil al-Waritheen claimed responsibility for a booby-trapped drone attack on Harir airbase outside Erbil, the capital city of the semi-autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq, without causing casualties. A U.S. military statement confirmed the attack on the Harir airbase and said that U.S. forces destroyed the drone, which failed to cause any injury or damage. According to the statement, three drones were launched Wednesday on Ayn al-Asad airbase in Anbar province in western Iraq, which resulted in "minor injuries to coalition forces." The U.S. forces destroyed one drone and damaged another, without mentioning the third one. Enditem |
