The European Union has vowed to “respond firmly” if Donald Trump imposes “unfair” tariffs on the bloc amid threats that the US President will expand his trade war.

The European Commission has previously stated that: "Tariffs create unnecessary economic disruptions and promote inflation. They are harmful to all parties'.
