Czech President Petr Pavel signed a bill prohibiting Russian citizens from obtaining Czech citizenship, according to a message on the president's website.
Even if individuals renounce their Russian passports, acquiring Czech citizenship will be nearly impossible in most cases until the war in Ukraine ends. Additionally, a new provision in the criminal code will ban collaboration with designated foreign states without explicit permission.
Since July 3, 2024, Czechia does not recognize non-biometric Russian passports. Russian citizens holding such documents are no longer able to reside legally in the country.
