Fidan։ "We are not against Ukraine joining NATO, but we must be realistic"
![]() 796 Monday, 24 February, 2025, 17:32 Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has stated that Ankara is taking a pragmatic approach to Ukraine's possible NATO membership. "We are not against Ukraine joining NATO, but we must be realistic. This is also the official position voiced by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan," the minister emphasized in an interview with Bloomberg TV channel. When asked whether Donald Trump could change the US approach to Ukraine's membership in the alliance, Fidan replied: "I am not sure that even the previous US authorities were really in favor of Ukraine's membership in NATO. Therefore, I do not think that a new approach has emerged on this issue now," he noted, adding that Ukraine seeks this in order to guarantee its own security. |
