Israel strikes targets in southern Syria after demanding demilitarisation
![]() 634 Wednesday, 26 February, 2025, 09:44 Israeli warplanes have carried out several airstrikes on military targets outside Damascus and in southern Syria, as Israeli officials warned the country’s army not to move south of the capital city. On Sunday the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, demanded the complete demilitarisation of southern Syria. The IDF stressed that the presence of military forces in southern Syria poses a danger to Israeli citizens and stated its intention to continue operations to eliminate potential threats. Israel opposes the deployment of forces of the new Syrian administration south of Damascus and insists on the complete demilitarization of the country's southern provinces. |
