Orban: Brussels Promises Ukraine EU Membership for Continuing War with Russia

Hungary will not allow Ukraine to join the European Union in a hurry and believes that Brussels is promising Ukraine this only so that it can continue its military operations against Russia. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.

He recalled that European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen recently confirmed her intention to ensure Ukraine's membership in the EU by 2030.

"Today, the official position of Brussels is that Ukraine should be admitted to the EU as soon as possible. It is supposed to happen within one to two years," Orban said.

According to him, "European leaders have decided that Ukraine should continue its military operations against Russia in exchange for accelerated membership in the EU."

"This will destroy the entire European Union, this will destroy us. Ukraine's hasty accession to the EU will cause irreparable harm to European countries in areas such as the economy, labor market, healthcare, public safety, border security, not to mention national defense," the Hungarian Prime Minister said.
