#Türkiye: "Turkey intends to establish military bases in Syria"

Turkey plans to establish military bases in neighboring Syria to counter the Islamic State terrorist group. This was reported by the Türkiye newspaper, citing sources in the security forces.
According to the media outlet, this refers to a joint base for ground forces and air forces, as well as a naval base. Under the new conditions, Turkey will provide the necessary assistance to ensure security and stability in Syria, the newspaper writes, adding that the US will withdraw most of its troops from Syria, leaving a “symbolic base” in the Arab republic.
Earlier, Erdogan received the interim leader of Syria, Ahmed al-Sharaa, in Istanbul. He noted the importance of preserving the territorial integrity of the neighboring country and announced Ankara’s intention to develop comprehensive ties with Damascus, including in the military sphere.
