#ABC: "US to decide on entering war with Iran within 24-48 hours"
![]() 636 Wednesday, 18 June, 2025, 09:40 Participants in a meeting between US President Donald Trump and his national security advisers at the White House made it clear that the next 24-48 hours will be decisive in the conflict between Iran and Israel, ABC News reports. After this period, it will become clear whether he has a diplomatic solution or the US will have to resort to military action, the publication writes. Before the meeting, Trump published a series of posts in Truth Social in which he called Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei an "easy target" and demanded the country's unconditional surrender. Despite his harsh rhetoric, the US considers it possible to resume negotiations with Iran on the nuclear program, ABC writes. According to US officials, Tehran is in a weak position, so it will be forced to return to the negotiating table and ultimately agree to a deal that provides for a complete cessation of uranium enrichment. If Iran agrees, a high-level meeting involving Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and Vice President J.D. Vance could take place as early as this week. ABC notes that Tehran would then need to make a decision soon, as Trump has signaled that "his patience is wearing thin." CBS and Axios previously reported that Trump has not ruled out strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. If the United States joins Israel's operation against Iran, Tehran will launch missile strikes on U.S. bases in the Middle East, The New York Times reported, citing intelligence. American troops in the region have been placed on high alert. |
