"Naftogaz" has signed its first gas purchase agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine (a subsidiary of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR), the Ukrainian company’s board chairman Sergey Koretsky said.
The agreement provides for small-scale pilot supplies. Gas will be supplied to Ukraine for the first time via the Trans-Balkan corridor, via Bulgaria and Romania.
No other details of the deal were provided. Koretsky called it “a strategically important step that paves the way for long-term cooperation between Kiev and Baku” and diversifies supply sources.
