Mars is investing in gene editing technology, specifically CRISPR, to develop hardier cocoa plants. This initiative aims to address challenges like climate variability, disease, and environmental stress that impact cocoa production, ensuring a more sustainable supply chain for their chocolate products. The company is partnering with agricultural gene editing firm Pairwise to access their CRISPR tools.
