The Matenadaran has acquired a painting by an unknown artist that holds both documentary and artistic value.
Materials related to the establishment of the Matenadaran as a research institute are scarce. The painting is one of the rare examples depicting the early stage of the construction of the building.
According to the information passed on to us, during the Soviet era, in the context of criticism of the cult of personality, the artist removed the painting from his home, considering the fact that in the background, instead of the “Mother Armenia” monument, a statue of Joseph Stalin is depicted.
The painting is scheduled to be displayed within the framework of the exhibition “The Eternity of 1 Year — G.”
