Disney’s Lilo & Stitch reimagining, writer-director James Gunn’s Superman and F1: The Movie starring Brad Pitt are among the highest-grossing movies of the year, according to Box Office Mojo. Similar to past years, sequels and family-friendly films continued to dominate the global box office.

Here’s a breakdown of the 10 highest-grossing films, in descending order, at the worldwide box office in 2025. Note: All box-office numbers on this list are through the last weekend of the calendar year, December 26 to 28.

James Gunn’s Superman film, starring David Corenswet as the new Man of Steel, flew into theaters with a solid box office performance, signaling that the new era of the DC Universe is off to a promising start.

The good news for fans is that a sequel is already in the works, titled Man of Steel and set for release on July 9, 2027. The cast includes returning stars Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, plus franchise newcomer Lars Eidinger as the villain Brainiac.
