US state secretary, UK FM discuss Iran

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks with UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper on regional security issues, including Iran and efforts to ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. State Department said.
State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott said the two officials discussed ongoing initiatives aimed at restoring secure maritime transit through the strategic waterway, a key route for global oil shipments.
The conversation also focused on transatlantic security cooperation and defense spending within the NATO alliance.
According to the State Department, Rubio and Cooper emphasised the importance of European countries taking greater responsibility for their own security through increased defence investment and broader burden-sharing within NATO.
