"Trying anything possible to get me out": Trump says no "regret" about starting war with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran is doing everything possible to prolong the conflict because it believes the Democratic Party could return to power in the United States and allow Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons.

Trump said he believes Iran is trying to “get me out” because Iranian leaders expect Democrats to take a softer position on Iran’s nuclear program. He insisted that Iran will not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.

The president also said he has no regrets about launching the war with Iran, arguing that action was necessary to prevent Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.

Trump again criticized the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), negotiated during Barack Obama’s presidency. He said withdrawing the United States from the agreement was the right decision because, in his view, the deal ultimately provided Iran with a path toward developing nuclear weapons.

Trump maintained that without the actions taken by his administration, Iran might already have a nuclear weapon.
