The Parliament of Yemen supports the general mobilization against the advance of the Houthis

The Parliament of Yemen has given its approval this Monday to the declaration of general mobilization of the entire population of military age to serve in the Armed Forces, in order to curb the offensive of the Houthi militias that dominate the north and center of the country.

The measure supports the announcement made on Friday by the internationally recognized Yemeni government president, Rashad al Alimi, who decreed the general mobilization following the progress of the Houthis along the western coastal strip up to the vicinity of the strategic Bab el Mandeb strait. Meanwhile, fighting continues in the provinces of Taiz and Marib.

"Our goal is to restore the institutions of the State and exercise its sovereignty over the entire territory of the country, including Sana'a," Al Alimi stated in reference to the capital, controlled by the Houthis since 2014.

In addition to the general mobilization, Al Alimi has proposed a general amnesty aimed at Houthi fighters and their collaborators who decide to leave the group and cease any military or supportive activity in their favor. In particular, he has assured the military who switched to the Houthi side that they will retain their rank and salary if they return.

Al Alimi himself defended this Monday the implementation of the "safe return" and "general mobilization" plans and emphasized that the latter is not only intended to increase the number of troops on the front but constitutes a "comprehensive national mobilization" of "human, material, and moral resources." In this regard, he has called on the youth in Houthi-controlled areas to join the Armed Forces.

For his part, the military spokesman for the Houthis, Yahya Sari, has reported in the last 24 hours a total of 38 Saudi airstrikes against the provinces of Taiz, Saada, and Haya, in which ballistic missiles and F-15 and Typhoon fighter jets would have been used.
