Protestors clashed with Spanish police in Madrid late on Wednesday following a deadly high-speed train crash that killed at least 68 people.

Far-right groups called for the protest outside the Transport Ministry, demanding the government's resignation over the accident.

About 1,500 people attended, with police using tear gas to disperse the crowd, broadcaster TVE reported.

At least 68 people were killed and around 50 seriously injured when the trains collided, with Transport Minister Óscar Puente blaming an "inexplicable" decision by rail controllers to allow one train to proceed despite a safety system failure.
