European Parliament building robbed during lockdown
![]() 1548 Friday, 03 July, 2020, 11:40 At least 50 members of the European Parliament had their offices robbed; computers, tablets and other things were stolen from their officers during that period. Politico reported that on July 2. In March, President of European Parliament David Sassoli introduced strict measures, which banned trespassers from accessing the Parliament's building. The official urged MEPs working in their homelands, so as to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. The European Parliament's building remained almost empty until May 2020. "German MEP Nico Semsrott, who had two laptops stolen, said he is disappointed by the lack of response from the European Parliament's Directorate-General for Security, known as DG SAFE. "This is a huge scandal, and I don't know why everybody is shutting their mouth," Politico wrote. According to the lawmaker, he and his colleagues were informed about thefts in April. After that, security ranks were boosted around offices. |
