Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that it is too early to evaluate the results and draw "far-reaching conclusions" based on the contacts between Moscow and Washington. According to him, the work to overcome the contradictions and problems in Russian-American relations "has not even begun yet."
The head of the Foreign Ministry noted that the new American administration is taking "steps in the right direction," but there is no need to get too far ahead.
"We appreciate them, but, I repeat, it is premature to draw any profound conclusions on this basis," Lavrov added.
Lavrov emphasized that the most important thing for Russia is to ensure its national interests and eliminate the root causes of the conflict in Ukraine.
