US officially cancels 83% of USAID programs, – Rubio

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that the United States is officially canceling 83% of the programs of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
He reported this on the social network X.
"After a 6 week review we are officially canceling 83% of the programs at USAID. The 5200 contracts that are now cancelled spent tens of billions of dollars in ways that did not serve, (and in some cases even harmed), the core national interests of the United States," he said.
Rubio added that after consultations with Congress, they intend to transfer the "remaining 18% of programs" (about 1,000) "to be administered more effectively" under the leadership of the State Department.
The Secretary of State thanked the DOGE Department of Government Efficiency, headed by American billionaire Elon Musk, and "the hardworking staff who worked very long hours to achieve this overdue and historic reform.”
