Trump says US needs Greenland for international security

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday said the United States needs to control Greenland to ensure international security.
Trump made the comments while signing executive orders in the Oval Office of the White House on the first day of his second term as president.
Trump has expressed interest in making Greenland, an autonomous territory of Denmark, a part of the U.S. since his reelection in November. He hasn't ruled out using military or economic power to persuade Denmark to hand it over.
The US president noted that Russian and Chinese ships are sailing near Greenland, so the US “must be there.”
“If we are not there, we will not be able to ensure national or international security,” he stressed.
Since his re-election in November, Trump has expressed a desire to make Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory, part of the United States, not excluding the use of military force.
The authorities of Greenland and Denmark have opposed this idea.
