Galuzin։ "Armenia cannot be in the EAEU and the EU at the same time"

Armenia will not be able to be a member of the EAEU and the EU at the same time, but it is up to Armenia to decide where it is better to be. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Mikhail Galuzin, commenting on the adoption by the Armenian parliament of a bill on the country's intention to join the European Union.

"We are convinced that it is impossible to be in two different unions at the same time," Galuzin said in an interview with RIA Novosti.

Galuzin recalled that the EAEU is an association of equal states, and the EU is a structure in which "there is a stick discipline, subordinated to anti-Russian narratives set by Brussels bureaucrats who are out of touch with reality."

"We hope that all the benefits of membership in the EAEU and the scale of losses from breaking with the EAEU will be explained to the Armenian society," he said.

Galuzin emphasized that Armenia is a sovereign state that independently chooses the vector of its development, but the population must objectively understand the consequences of these steps.

Earlier, the Secretary of the Russian Security Council, Sergei Shoigu, answering a question about Yerevan’s latest steps towards European integration, suggested that in the event of possible accession to the European Union, Armenia would not only face economic problems, but would also be forced to join in the introduction of anti-Russian sanctions.
