"Europe's response to US tariffs must be tough and united" - Macron
![]() 1955 Friday, 04 April, 2025, 10:33 France and Germany are calling for a tough and united response to US tariffs, French President Emmanuel Macron said, Bloomberg reported. “Europe’s response will consist of two phases: the first in mid-April, the second at the end of April, after a detailed analysis by sector,” Macron said. He stressed that French companies should stop any investment in the US “until the situation is clarified.” “The strength of the European Union is its 450 million-strong market, which is larger than the US market,” the French president added. Paris wants to make sure that the EU’s response to US tariffs will include the entire toolkit of the alliance to protect its own interests, Bloomberg reported. Recall that US President Donald Trump announced the imposition of trade tariffs on the vast majority of US trading partners the day before. In particular, import duties from EU member states will be 20 percent. |
