#NYT: "Khamenei said to pick three potential successors"
![]() 469 Saturday, 21 June, 2025, 20:46 Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has selected three possible candidates to succeed him, The New York Times reported, citing sources. The names of Khamenei's potential successors have not been made public, but it is known that Khamenei's son, Mojtaba, who is considered the main contender for the position of spiritual leader, is not included in this list. He is also a cleric and is close to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Khamenei also instructed Iran's Assembly of Experts (a council of 88 popularly elected mujtahids that appoints the Supreme Leader) to choose his successor from among these three clerics, if necessary. |
