Western Azerbaijan is the name of an Iranian province. As reported by Miran Press, this was stated by Iranian Ambassador to Yerevan Mehdi Sobhani.

“Iran resolutely supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Armenia and condemns the incorrect wording contained in the statement of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” the Iranian Ambassador to Armenia said.

“The name “Western Azerbaijan” should be used exclusively as the name of an Iranian province and should not be associated with the territory of any other state,” he emphasized.
