Cambodia’s Ministry of National Defense has reported that heavy fighting has broken out in the conflict zone along the Cambodian-Thai border.
The Defense Ministry said that “fierce clashes” had broken out between Cambodian and Thai forces in the area of the historical temples of Takrabae and Tamoanthom near the border, as “Thai troops launched an intense attack in an apparent attempt to gain control of the sites.” Cambodian troops reportedly “responded swiftly and decisively, repelling the attack with defensive maneuvers and return fire.”
The Khmer Times also reported that heavy shelling was reported in other parts of the border in Preah Vihear province. There was an exchange of artillery fire in the conflict zone.
